MACULE– A circumscribed flat area of discoloration that is less than 1 cm in diameter (without elevation or depression).
PATCH– A circumscribed, flat area of discoloration that is greater than 1 cm in diameter.
PAPULE – A papule is a circumscribed, solid raised lesion that is less than 1 cm in diameter
PLAQUE – A plaque is a circumscribed, solid raised lesion that is more than 1 cm in diameter. Usually broader than thick
BLISTER– fluid-filled raised lesion (based on size can be a vesicle or bulla)
VESICLE – small, superficial, raised fluid filled blister of less than 1 cm
BULLAE –large raised fluid filled blister of more than 1cm
PUSTULE – A purulent (pus filled) vesicle
NODULE – A palpable, solid lesion that is greater than 1 cm in diameter. Nodules are usually found in the dermal or subcutaneous tissue, and the lesion may be above, level with, or below the skin surface.
ULCER – An ulcer is a break or discontinuity of the skin exhibiting complete loss of the epidermis and often portions of the dermis.
EROSION – An erosion is a discontinuity of the skin exhibiting incomplete loss of the epidermis
